Male ceramic torso

Lately I have concentrated on creating work  for a ‘two man’ show at the Art Saffron Gallery in Battle (7-26 August) and for the Rye Society of Artists Summer show (7th of August -3rd September). I have had frequent swim breaks though! The weather is just too beautiful to ignore, and the sea a short walk from my house through the beautiful Old Town.
I have been experimenting with a new black clay. It is shorter and less plastic than my normal clay, and it dries jolly fast as well. So it’s not very user friendly.  But I rather like the effect;  This ceramic torso is bisque fired and then polished with bees wax. It is about 50 x 43 cm and made to hang on a wall….

About Anna

I am a ceramic sculptor living on the South coast near London, England. My work is influenced by my experience of the earth as a living being and seeing how we are all connected with eachother and with the things that surround us. I create ceramic torsos using molochite clay which I often smokefire in galvanised dustbins. I also make House Gods to protect and amuse, and Fat Birds - little smokefired sculptures that tell the story about what it is like to be a fat bird at peace with its surroundings.

  1. Dear Anna,

Googling on internet I found your amazing male torso. I think it is a very beautiful more than just an experiment in black cley!
Together with my husband we drive a gallery with male art in the Netherlands and since this year also working together with an artist in ceramics in London, Keith King.

Could you kindly give us some more information about prizes and in what kid of amound your work is being made?

    Greetings,
    Sandro Kortekaas
