Treasures in Hastings

My garden in Hastings is very much looking after itself. It surprises and delights me, daily.

I am luxuriating in the tropical colours and fragrances. And…

…in between the weeds I find golden treasures. The taste of the strawberries is divine, and the fragrance good enough to bottle. I don’t think they are wild strawberries because they are too big and their texture too soft..Someone must have planted them years ago and they are still thriving.

Roses and palm trees at sunset. I can spend hours just breathing it in, but I must get back to my studio to finish my Balinese dream; she needs glazing.

About Anna

I am a ceramic sculptor living on the South coast near London, England. My work is influenced by my experience of the earth as a living being and seeing how we are all connected with eachother and with the things that surround us. I create ceramic torsos using molochite clay which I often smokefire in galvanised dustbins. I also make House Gods to protect and amuse, and Fat Birds - little smokefired sculptures that tell the story about what it is like to be a fat bird at peace with its surroundings.

Thank you, Keira. After almost 3 weeks of sunshine I wouldn’t really mind the rain for a day or two. But it has been DIVINE! We are so lucky!

      • It has made world headlines 🙂 Not joking! But it all sounds a little dry. Prick holes in your grassy areas with a fork if you have wone to help the rain soak in. They’re warning it will be heavy

Hi Sonel, thank you for your comment, glad you like the photos. The big rain came today and it was delightful but I’m afraid that my studio got soaked. I’m hoping it’s just the gutters overflowing…:-/

You’re welcome hon and sorry to hear about your studio. I am sure it was just the gutters. Maybe too many dried leaves. It reminds me that we must clean our gutters again before our rain starts. 😀
