…the day the ceiling finally caved in

It’s funny, but when it finally happens, it’s kind of a relief

Many days like this; listening to the rain inside my living room.

..leading to a ceiling looking like that. The dark plug-like blobs are actually fungi. I wonder if they are edible.

…and then finally, this. Lots of soggy plaster, wood and insulation on the floor. And fungi, edible or not.

It looks a lot neater now that the hole has been squared up. There’s nothing like a bit of symmetry to cheer you up.

Did I mention that we have had a lot of rain in Hastings?

About Anna

I am a ceramic sculptor living on the South coast near London, England. My work is influenced by my experience of the earth as a living being and seeing how we are all connected with eachother and with the things that surround us. I create ceramic torsos using molochite clay which I often smokefire in galvanised dustbins. I also make House Gods to protect and amuse, and Fat Birds - little smokefired sculptures that tell the story about what it is like to be a fat bird at peace with its surroundings.

Oh dear oh dear. What a horrible mess – you were lucky it didn’t land on your head. It all weighs a lot more than people think doesn’t it? I hope you’ve got a good friendly builder to help you fix it up.

It is incredibly heavy! – Yes, fingers crossed I think I have found someone who can fix it. The main thing is to trace the leak and stop further water coming in.

Yow crap. I am sitting here in the living room at the moment listening to the plip!plip!plipliplip!plip from the hallway.

That’s not good the way yours went though. This weather has been horrendous.

So sad to see. Memories comes up of my parents old house, the last years before my mother moved to an apartment. It was a lovely house but in desperate need of someone who could (afford to) take care of it…
Well I hope that you can find someone who can fix the roof for you.

Hope you get sorted soon. I would have to be on 24 hour spider watch armed with hoover tool at the ready just in case any decide to venture through the hole

We had to gut the whole backside of our new home because of damage like this. We are still working on mold remediation before we can begin rebuilding the walls and ceiling. I do not envy you your task, but I am glad you found someone to help you with it!

    So sorry this happened, Anna.

Thank you, Lynda. I’m sorry to hear about your house, too – when will you be able to move in?

When the weather warms up and we can begin again on the repairs. Winter was brutally cold this year with freezing to well below freezing temps… (5 degrees some days!!!) and there is no heat on the mountain right now. Spring is coming and work will begin again. Then we will see how long it takes to rebuild a kitchen, laundry and bath. 😀
