Mindy the tame Seagull and Skittle the Cat

Mindy the seagull has decided she’s to be part of this house hold. She has had a disastrous spring;  she broke her leg and lost her mate and now…well, now we’re her new family , it seems. She will squeeze through  any open window or door and I often  hear her patter-patter  on the floor boards behind me as I work in my studio…

Oh, oh – Mindy alert!

But I am not sure about this arrangement. Do I really want to turn this wild creature into a pet? Or is the choice already made for me – am I to be HER pet?
And the Skittle Cat , lord of all he surveys;

Well, he has issues, too.
He adores it when she finishes off his old food so that he can have a top-up of fresh stuff…

But these days she’s always around…

About Anna

I am a ceramic sculptor living on the South coast near London, England. My work is influenced by my experience of the earth as a living being and seeing how we are all connected with eachother and with the things that surround us. I create ceramic torsos using molochite clay which I often smokefire in galvanised dustbins. I also make House Gods to protect and amuse, and Fat Birds - little smokefired sculptures that tell the story about what it is like to be a fat bird at peace with its surroundings.

  2. I don’t think Mindy’s become your pet – you’re offering food & shelter, she’s taken you up on that. She ain’t tame, just happy you’re there 🙂

    Let you and the Skittle cat be her pets, I think she needs that 😉

      She is so dominant, Per…I find it hard to be a part time pal…She’s banging on the doors and on the windows too often – and if any door or window is open she’s in! But yes, I do like her. But no, I don’t want her in the house all the time as she will freak if unexpected things happen – take flight and then brain herself against the closed window .
